Bell’s Palsy 3

They took
half my face.
I per–
severed,
though saying
persevered
was difficult.
They took half
my bread,
half my love,
half my better-half.
Tomorrow
they shall come
for a limb,
left or right,
right or
wrong.
I am prepared
to get by
with less.
But someday I
shall dis–
appear
all together
and you who knew
me will say,
at first he seemed
two-faced,
but later he seemed
only half there.
You will be
only half
right, or, as we say,
more correctly, correct.
